B boys over percussion is the name many heads would have come across during the year of 2003/4, with the acclaimed release “for starters EP” courtesy of genuine/pias Records. Formed from members of “fours and threes” B-Bop delivered a very unique sound into the hip hop community not just the UK but world wide. They hit every global corner with a strong first release which received the single of the month in echoes magazine, and the voice.
There aim is not critical acclaim but to truly show conscious rhymes, tight beats and harmonies in a b boy manner. Heavy drums courtesy a Producer principle , martini sable on voice and wayolife on mic, with a sprinkle of madkut on the one and two's “ For starters ” was served. “I put together the fours and three's LP back in 2002 after about a year myself and madkut thought it would be constructive to form a more tightly nit group to start going into more of a live genre. So we hooked up martini and Wayolife and it just formed. From live shows around the UK we hooked up with Genuie/pias who realized “For starters EP” and here we are.
B-Bop future projects include “Spitsburg Remixes” due summer 2005 followed by the B-BOP LP 2006
Reviews
“ Principle and Madkut are back as part of a four-piece by the name of B-Bop. Thankfully, whilst the name might have change, the level of quality heard on the pair's earlier release is still the same, if not better. “True” is the type of tune that summers are made for. A sharp-yet-optimistic track with and almost slum village/jay-dee appeal to its hook, the foursome may well “stick to the raw elements” when in the lab, but they also managed to inject an invigorating vitality into their music which many artists could learn from.”
Ryan Proctor (BLUES & SOUL)
“No one would call a band B-Bop unless they were serious about music. B-Bop are serious cats, which is what they try to put across on the first track from this EP, True. They keep it true more than they keep real. To keep it real would be a cliché, and this group, far from being a cliché, supply ‘educated' music for the masses. What's currently out there in the hip-hop market; it has a Sharpe tempo, but in contrast the rhythm is jazzy and wraithlike while the rhyming is uncomplicated and the harmonies rigid but quirky. There Scholarly sound will appeal to an older audience, be it hip-hop, indie, jazz or soul. True Quality. 4/5 (single of the month AUG03)
