The Cutz

The CUTZ was formed in 1994 and the original members were Trixta, Uppercut & Richochet. The first three members were all DJ's and used to take part in a weekly radio show on Passion FM which would broadcast on Saturday nights from 6-9PM. The show would consist of a 90% hip-hop & 10% R&B format. The selection of records would many be the most up front and exclusive promo records & tapes available. There would be also be guest appearances by rappers (Richy D) and other DJ's.The Cutz also took part in events outside of the radio show in venues and café's, such as The Mudd Dock and Club Loco.
In July 1995 Passion FM was shut down due to the fact that a one month license was obtained for Power Jam Radio and the Cutz went legal on the Air Waves during July/August 95. The Cutz now ran on Saturdays at a 8-10pm and was sponsered by Purple Penguin Records during the 6 week period that Power Jam was on air. The show featured guest MC appearances by Supreme & Richy D.
After the one month period on Power Jam The Cutz went to Dance 104 FM with a Saturday show a running from 8-10PM . During this time a new member of the unit was to emerge, the new member called himself Madcut and added another dimension to the unit.
Over time the Cutz continued to run on Dance FM for about 6 months until Dance FM went off air and the Cutz then return with a Friday night show of 8-9 pm on fridayz early 1997.
Then the Cutz went back on the radio because all stations closed to make way for PowerJam which had a one month license from 22 June to 19 July 1997 .The Cutz had a Thursday night show and a grave yard shift which ran on Friday Nights from 3-6am.
The next license gained by PowerJam was from the 8 th December to the 4 th of January 1998 (flyer below) and ran on Saturday nights from 12-3am. During all previous radio shows the Cutz had rarely has a chance to show an turntable skill due to the fact that taking your own set-up to the station was a risk and the show times on previous slots had not commanded a good enough reason. The inclusion of our own set-up and studio facilities meant that we could make the show sound a lot more professional.

1997 was to be a good year as several acheivemnts were made. The first of those achievement was for Madcut to come fourth in the UK DMC mixing championships. This was the first time he had entered the DMC's and his postion should his DJ maturity as he had only considered entering at the prospect of winning the competion. The next achivement was to appear on Tim Westwoods Mix Master weekend 1997 which featured Trixta, Uppercut & madcut.
1998 was to see the Cutz move back to Passion FM with a weekly slot of 7-8pm on Thursday's which ran until about June. Madcut and Uppercut took part as a duo and won the Fly styles DJ mixing championships late 1998 .
